Privacy & community rules
Last updated: 3 November 2026
EduLoop is a student-run community for Queen Mary University of London undergraduates. It is run by me, Leena Latifi, a student at QMUL. This page explains what information EduLoop keeps about you, why, who can see it, and what the community rules are.
The short version
- I keep your QMUL email, name, year and course, and what you post.
- Other students only ever see your name and year, and only if you choose not to post anonymously. They never see your email.
- Anonymous means anonymous to other students. As the person running EduLoop, I can look up who wrote a post if I need to deal with spam, abuse or a report.
- I don't sell your data, show adverts or use tracking cookies.
- You can ask me to correct or delete your information at any time.
What EduLoop keeps
- Your account: your QMUL email address and password. Your password is handled by Google's Firebase Authentication, and I can't see it.
- Your profile: your name, year of study and course. These are set when you sign up.
- What you do on EduLoop: your questions, answers and replies, boosts, upvotes, saved questions, reports you make, and messages you send to me through the Help & feedback box.
- Activity: EduLoop records when you were last active (a time and your course), so I can see roughly how many people use it and which courses are busy.
- Technical information: like most websites, the services that run EduLoop automatically receive basic technical data such as your IP address and browser type.
Why it is kept
- To confirm you are a QMUL student and put you in the right course room.
- To run EduLoop: showing posts, delivering replies and notifications, and keeping your saved items.
- To keep the community safe: handling reports, spam, trolling and other misuse.
- To reply to you and to fix mistakes, such as a wrong year or course on your profile.
Who can see what
- Other students: your name and year on posts you did not make anonymous. Nothing else.
- Anonymous posts: other students can't see who wrote them. I can look up the author of a post when it is reported or when I suspect spam or abuse, and I only do this when there is a reason to. I may then block the account.
- Me: I can see profile information, your email and your messages to me.
- Google: EduLoop runs on Google's Firebase service, which stores and processes the data for me. Google may process data on servers outside the UK and uses its own safeguards for this.
- I don't sell or share your information with advertisers or anyone else.
Cookies and similar storage
EduLoop doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. It uses your browser's storage to keep you logged in and to remember small things, such as which messages you have already seen. If you press play on a YouTube video on the About page, YouTube may set its own cookies. The video only loads when you press play. If I ever add analytics, I'll update this page first.
How long it is kept
Your information is kept while your account exists. If you ask me to delete your account (use Request account deletion in your profile menu, or message me), I'll delete your profile, posts, replies and messages within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information I hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, and you can object to how it is used. Just message me through the ๐ฌ Help & feedback box in EduLoop. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Community rules
- Be kind and respectful. No bullying, harassment, hate or discrimination.
- Don't share other people's personal information, and don't try to find out who wrote an anonymous post.
- No spam, advertising or impersonating other people.
- Use EduLoop to understand your work, not to cheat. Don't post or ask for answers to assessed work in a way that breaks QMUL's academic integrity rules.
- Posts that break these rules can be removed, and accounts can be blocked or removed. You can report a post with the ๐ฉ button.
Changes
If this page changes in any way, I'll say so on EduLoop. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
